The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute is a public institution with the mandate to contribute to the improvement of the health of populations internationally and nationally through excellence in research, services, and teaching and training. - The Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH) is a department of the Swiss TPH that provides services and undertakes research and teaching in the field of international health. We work in a stimulating academic environment, with links to bilateral and multilateral organizations, universities, and non-governmental organizations. - The Health Technology and Telemedicine Unit is seeking for a - Health-Informatics Specialist - Project Associate Position - based in Basel, with either EU or Swiss Citizenship or a current Swiss work-permit. Our unit covers the thematic fields of health technology management, health information systems and telemedicine applications. Our work is integrated in a multidisciplinary team with the overall aim to strengthen health systems in international settings. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing and planned projects in the fields of Health Information Systems (HIS) and various other eHealth applications, and is expected to work in close collaboration with the software development team and our project implementation groups. - Main responsibilities: - This position includes: -
- Project management assistance including the elaboration of project plans, project monitoring and evaluation.
- Appraisal of open source software applications for suitability in low- and middle income countries.
- Configuration and adaptation of software applications, in particular of HIS systems according to local requirements.
- Contribute to web application development and programming in joint collaboration with our Public Health Computing Unit.
- Development of training modules for the successful operation of software applications.
- Requirements: - To best fit into our active, interdisciplinary team we expect the following qualifications: -
- MSc in Biomedical Engineering or Informatics. Specialisations in medical informatics, IT project management or public health are desirable.
- Experience with health informatics standards such as HL7, openEHR, SNOMED CT or ICD-10 are desirable.
- Practical work experience and experience in development field would be an advantage
- Interest in international development work and willingness to travel abroad
- A good working knowledge of English is a requirement. German and French would be an advantage.
